Prepping to sell and the heartache of moving

prepping to sell

By: Angie

We are prepping to sell our house and it was recommended that we freshen up the paint. By freshen up, I mean, paint the vast majority of the house. We geared ourselves up. We washed the walls with TSP. We picked out a paint color.

Chris dove into painting.

He got at least a full wall done and had been painting for hours when we paused.

The living room was blue.

Okay, not blue blue, but like a bluish, greenish, greyish color.  It wasn’t going to fly.

Would it be a different color when it dried? Hard to know! He had taken a day off work to paint so we needed to make snap decisions.

Back to Home Depot we went for a new $100 of paint.  Oh well.

When you’re painting the color that runs through most of your house, you’ve got to get it right.  Our new color is ‘Blank Slate’ a warm white that should be much friendlier and better for selling.

One of my kids was in tears last night.  “Moving is so hard,” they said. “Why do we have to do it?”

Moving is hard.  So much upheaval.  So much more to come.

We’re forced to choose what is really important, both with our stuff (what to get rid of and what to keep) and in our daily lives. – what we prioritize in busy days.

The kids have been eating more granola bars than ever lately (grab and go snacks) and playing on tablets. I have Mom guilt. Then I remember that these are not normal times. This is not normal life. Things will continue to shift and change and our temporary normal is including more tablet time so the adults can get things done.

We do what we have to to get things done for putting our house on the market.
